The CLA curriculum is based on the National Educational Technology standards which has been adopted by the state of Kansas as their benchmarks for student achievement in the area of technology.

Kindergarten: Computer parts, mouse skills, recognize numbers and letters on keyboard, Microsoft Word®, Paint, and Internet safety

1st Grade : Computer parts and terminology, mouse skills, recognize numbers and letters on keyboard, home row keys, Microsoft Word®, and Paint , save to H drive, open a saved document, print a document, Internet safety

2nd Grade : 1st grade skills plus file management, create folders on H drive, create a document in Microsoft Word®, PowerPoint® and save to folder on H drive, open a document from O drive and save to H drive, print, open a bookmarked Internet site, begin keyboarding program in 4th quarter, Internet safety

3rd and 4th Grades :
Keyboarding is major component of lab time. Type to Learn is the program at this level. Additional instruction is given on Microsoft Word®, PowerPoint®, Paint, and Excel® and Kidspiration®. Internet safety is covered in a more comprehensive manner.

5th Grade : Keyboarding continues to be a major component of lab time. Bernies' Typing Travels and various Internet keyboarding sites are used. File management, advanced instructionin Microsoft Word®, PowerPoint®, Excel®, Publisher®, Inspiration®, multimedia presentations and Internet safety are additional components.

6th Grade : Assessed in two areas:
** Keyboarding: pre and post test measuring accuracy and speed
** Using the Microsoft® Office products
Students develop their own business. They use Inspiration® or Kidspiration® to develop a plan, design a logo using Paint, Microsoft Word® to design a business card and store layout, Excel® to develop a budget, Publisher® to design a flyer or brochure,and create a web page, PowerPoint® to give a presentation and Photostory® to create a commercial. Internet safety guidelines are presented throughout the year.
