Reflections and Future Plans
Favorite Memories at West

I had the honor of being a part of the first ever Public Safety graduating class. Throughout the years I have made very strong relationships with everyone in the academy, but the 2020 seniors will always have a place in my heart. We got to see each other everyday sometimes twice a day; and while we may be in different branches of the academy, we all want to help our community in some way and that’s a truly powerful thing. The classes I took for this program were nothing but beneficial and helped me solidify what I want to do in the future.

Favorite Skill/s Learned in Academy

I really enjoyed learning Defensive Tactics (DT). Throughout law enforcement and across the world, it is important to know how to protect yourself and others. After learning some of the most common tactics, we learned you must keep practicing in order to make sure you’re doing them correctly. This is so no one gets hurt. In class, we were put into scenarios where you must adapt to the situation and use the proper technique. It requires fast thinking and is by far my favorite thing we did in the academy.

Future Plans

I will be attending The University of Nebraska-Lincoln majoring in forensic science. I am very excited to go through their program. The program is accredited and I have heard nothing but good things. While in college, I’m going to be doing internships and trying to start my career as a Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) as soon as possible.

Advice for Incoming
Academy Students

The best advice I can give is to take all opportunities handed to you. This academy provides students with many ways to get involved in Law Enforcement and Fire Rescue. The sooner you get involved, the sooner you will start to see your hard work pay off. Also, surround yourself with people who want you to succeed. High School offers many ways to get involved.  Find something you enjoy. Whether it’s sports, theater or chess club, there is something for everyone and it is a good way to meet people. Most importantly, BE YOURSELF, don’t change for anyone and find the people who accept the real you.
