OLATHE NORTH IS IMPLEMENTING A NEW PROCESS TO COMMUNICATE TARDY AND UNEXCUSED ABSENT ISSUES TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS.
Olathe North is going high tech in addressing excessive tardies to class and unexcused absences (arrival to class past the 10 minute tardy deadline)
THE PART THAT IS THE SAME AS IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN:
- When a student is excessively tardy to class, that student is assigned a detention.
- When a student is unexcused absent to class, that student is also assigned a detention.
- The student can serve the consequence (detention) that day or the following school day.
- The more times the student commits the violation, or if the student skips the lower level consequence, the more severe the following consequence will become.
Again, the process stated above is the same as prior years.
THE NEW COMMUNICATION TO HOME PART:
- When the student receives a consequence, (detention), the parent will receive a recorded voice mail and an email notifying them of their child's infraction and consequence.
- Included in that message will be what will happen if the child chooses to skip the consequence. The parent is asked to support the child serving the initial consequence so the elevated consequences don't have to be implemented.
Here is what the message will say:
This is Olathe North informing you that your student has been recorded as unexcused absent/excessively tardy to class. As a result, your student has been assigned a detention that must be served by (DATE INSERTED). If your student skips that detention, a Friday School will be automatically assigned for (DATE INSERTED). If your student skips that Friday School, your student is automatically OSS for 2 days on (DATE INSERTED) and (DATE INSERTED). Please encourage your student to serve the detention so consequences do not become elevated. If you have questions, please contact your student's administrator.
