Ravens fall short to the Jaguars

On Friday April 27th the The Raven baseball team took on the Blue Valley West Jaguars at Blue Valley District Activities Complex. Sam Righter took the mound for ONW, as the Ravens started off very hot getting the sticks going early.

Nate Niceswanger lead off the game first with a double over the left fielder’s head on the first pitch. Next batter, Kyle Shiever hits a soft grounder back to the mound, but is thrown away, scoring Niceswanger, as the Ravens take an early 1-0 lead. The next batter, Brady Slavens, smokes one all the way to right center field knocking in Shiever with a stand-up triple. Ravens would lead 2-0. Following Slavens, Wyatt Morgan hits one deep to straight away center for a sac-fly scoring Slavens, making it 3-0 Ravens. The Ravens would also put one more run in the top of the 2nd extending the lead to 4-0. However, a nightmare bottom of the 2nd inning on defense negated all those runs, as the Jaguars put up 5 runs. Miscues kept coming and coming for the Ravens as they could not stop the bleeding with many errors being committed, including 2 overthrows to first base. Jaguars would lead 5-4 after two.

In the top of the 4th, Slavens again hits a high fly ball to left center, but is dropped, scoring Nick Hegarty and Brevon Lee, regaining the lead 6-5. However, in the bottom of the 4th, catcher Grant Howard tries to throw out a runner at 2nd base, but miscommunication leads to the ball going into the outfield as the Jaguars would tie the game again 6-6.

Kyle Shiever came on to relieve Righter in the 6th, but allows a run to go by, as the Jaguars would again jump head 7-6.

The Ravens kept battling back with Brady Walker hitting a double with 2 outs in the top the 7th but we was left stranded as Tayler Mahoney struck out to end the game as the Ravens fall to the Jaguars 7-6. Their next game will be Tuesday May 1st against cross-town rivals Olathe East at 5:30pm @CBAC.
