VIRTUAL LEARNING
In Olathe Virtual Learning is the term given to programs that utilize the Internet and/or networks to access, deliver, and store course content for the purpose of student instruction. Three strands of Virtual Learning that utilize web-based course management exist in Olathe: eAcademy, eLearning, and Blended Learning.
eACADEMY and eLEARNING
eAcademy courses and eLearning courses utilize the Internet to deliver an entire course to a student, with the instructor being remote instead of face-to-face. The time that such online courses are taken - eAcademy after the regular school day and eLearning built into the school day - is the only distinction between these two methods of receiving course credit, and eAcademy is the office that manages these components of the virtual learning program.
BLENDED LEARNING
Blended Learning is occurring when a teacher uses a website or course management system to make course materials available to students through the Internet. The students and teacher are generally still face to face every day. Such strategies are managed by classroom teachers and are not part of the eAcademy program.
