Havencroft Report Card

History

In the late 1960's the growth of Olathe both on the east and west sides warranted the construction of two schools. Hollis-Miller Construction was contracted to build both Havencroft and Rolling Ridge elementary schools. The designs for these schools would set the basis for all of the schools to follow. In mid-October 1972, Havencroft School opened. The school enrollment grew quickly, and by 1975 six additional classrooms were added.    Within a year Havencroft grew beyond its capacity and temporary rooms were expanded into the library, activity areas, and hallways. In 1975 there were 10 elementary schools in Olathe. Today there are 33. When Havencroft was built, the staff established foundational beliefs about the school and their purpose, determining at that time to be child centered. Those beliefs have been rethought and revised over the years, but they still center around that original theme. Havencroft serves a community within the boundaries of Ridgeview to the west, Mur-Len to the east, College Way to the north, Willowwood Estates and Havencroft subdivisions to the south. We started the current school year with 326 students from homes within these boundaries and by transfer.
