We will provide a safe learning environment that fosters mutual respect and trust among community members while promoting healthy lifestyles and personal responsibility. Vision Our Vision is all Northview students will be life-long learners who positively contribute to society. School Colors and Mascot Code of Conduct
Enrollment at Northview Elementary School Northview's enrollment opened at 293 on the first day in 1967. By 1977, enrollment peaked at 451. Almost all classes had over 30 students in 1977 with extra teachers to help in classrooms of 35 to 40. Enrollment declined slightly and stabilized at about 390 through the next 10 years. Enrollment dropped again in 1991 to an enrollment of 335, with an average class size of 19. Since 1991, our enrollment has remained fairly consistent. Our current enrollment is 275. We presently serve children by providing a wide range of services. Northview was one of the first schools in the district to provide "inclusion" services to students with special needs. Our Title 1 program also targets those students grades K-3 with reading support. Northview also has two full-time resource room teachers and one full-time speech and language teacher to support targeted and identified students. Children attending Northview reside in single-family homes and duplexes. Due to Northview's geographic location, new residential development is virtually nonexistent within our boundaries. As the neighborhood has matured, and new growth has expanded away from the center of the city, the climate of Northview has changed. Northview now serves a blend of white-collar workers, blue-collar workers, retired persons, families in government subsidized housing, and families receiving other types of government assistance. With the opening of the Salvation Army Lodge in 1996, Northview has served as the home school for homeless children residing there. We have developed a positive rapport with the Lodge, and the Family Investment Resource Center, also serving the Lodge children. We pride ourselves on meeting the needs of each of our students! Proactive communication, interventions, and an invitational philosophy help ease the transitions these students often experience. 1977 Northview received its first major addition, adding a gym/cafeteria/auditorium and music room/stage area. Classrooms were converted to semi-open space patterned after the newest elementary schools in Olathe. 1990 Our most recent addition was opened with five additional classrooms, the art/science room, and a fully equipped computer lab. 1995 The little theater and library were combined and renovated into a library media center. The stairway and tower were retained and incorporated into the new design. 1997 Northview received new carpet throughout the building in December. 1998 Building updates included full computer networking for classrooms - with a computer in every classroom. Acoustical doors were also added between "pod" classrooms, assisting with noise distractions. New floor tile, replacing much of the existing tile from 1967, was also installed during the summer. 2005 Building updates include the addition of a new lunch room, front entrance, conference room, and completely renovated gymnasium. The entire front driveway was re-constructed to allow easy access to both the east (front side) and west (back side) of the building. Furthermore, additional technological updates were made. This included three laptop computers per classroom which will soon have the option of wireless technology. Northview School, with help from the District and Community, is truely becoming a 21st century school.
