Quick Tips for High School Seniors

The Counseling Office communicates all information regarding college and financial aid through this bulletin. It is posted in all Senior English and American Government classes. Copies are available to students in the Counseling Office, and new ones will be available every other Wednesday.

Your counselors are here to help you achieve your educational goals. Now is the time to start thinking about your plans for next year. Many colleges require admission by October 1 st or November 1 st to be considered for scholarship money through that particular school. Don't put off applying and miss out on an opportunity because you just didn't make the deadlines. Admission is your first step to furthering your education.  We will send official transcripts to the college of your choice. You need only to come in and sign up on the request list. Transcripts are printed on Wednesday and Friday.

  • The only thing better than one campus visit is several campus visits.
  • Don't take your friends with you on a campus visit. This not a time to party, but a time to learn about the school.
  • Make an appointment with the Admissions Office.
  • Make sure you see the campus, look at the housing options, and have a meeting with the financial aids office to see if you qualify for assistance and to find out what you must do get it.
  • Make an appointment to visit the department of the area in which you plan to major, if you know what that major will be.
  • Learn about the terminology used by colleges. The more reading you do the better prepared you will be to ask questions on your visit.
  • ACT's and SAT's, recommendations, activities, and essays are all important, but they take a backseat to the transcript. Your grades ARE important.
  • When it comes to activities, quality is valued more than quantity. The same goes for essays and recommendations.
  • Talk with as many people as possible. Be certain to talk with your counselor and to utilize the resources of your counseling center.
  • Above all, take time to enjoy the present.
