Campus Security

Students cannot learn unless they are in a safe and positive learning environment. The Olathe School District has established a Safe Schools for All policy. The emphasis is on a safe environment. We have clear guidelines for students and we focus on positive behavior. We work hand-in-hand with our community, including the Olathe Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to support safe schools.

The School Resource Officer (SRO) program is a nationally accepted practice of placing a certified law enforcement officer in schools. In Olathe, the SROs work closely with school administrators to provide a safe learning environment, law-related education, and the expertise of a trained law enforcement officer on campus.

SROs are a valuable resource in many ways:

• Deal with law and safety / public order issues
• Serve as a classroom resource for law-related education, violence prevention / diffusion, safety programs, gangs, alcohol and drug prevention, crime prevention, citizenship, etc.
• Assist faculty and administrators to solve problems in the school community
• Act as a law enforcement role model for students
• Provide counseling in areas that may affect the educational setting, and be law-related in nature
• Participate in conferences with parents, teachers or students on individual issues, concerns or questions

The Olathe district's SROs have a 24-hour hotline which parents and students are encouraged to call if they have information on criminal activity.
