LANGUAGE ARTS COURSES

Language Arts 6- This course is the beginning of the secondary language arts program. This course includes the study of literature, reading comprehension skills, composition, the writing process, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and other communication skills.

Reading Seminar 6- This inquiry-based course will focus on content-area reading support as well as immerse students in reading experiences of interest that will meet their comprehension and vocabulary needs. Throughout their reading, students will engage with others through discussion, make connections through writing, and self-reflect on their own skills and strategies.

Reading 6 (READ 180)- This course offeres intensive instruction to improve basic reading skills in term of fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary, based on individual student needs. Students will also choose reading materical based on interest and reading level.

Reading Seminar 7- This inquiry-based course will immerse students in reading experiences of interest that will meet their comprehension needs. Throughout their reading, students will engage with others through discussion, make connections through wirting, and self-reflect on their own skills and strategies. Continued content-area reading support will be provided.

Reading 7 (READ 180)- This course offeres intensive instruction to improve basic reading skills in term of fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary, based on individual student needs. Students will also choose reading materical based on interest and reading level.

Language Arts 8- The course includes the study of literature, reading comprehension skills, composition, the writing process, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and other communication skills. Emphasis is on correlating language arts instruction to the social studies curriculum.

Reading Seminar 8- This inquiry-based course immerses students in reading experiences of interest that will meet their comprehension and vocabulary needs. Throughout their reading, students will engage with others through discussion, make connections through wirting, and self-reflect on their own skills and strategies. Students pursue an area of interest to explore and then create and present a portfolio of learning. Continued content-area reading support will be provided.
