attendance and tardies | homework | appointments | notes from nurse September Parent Newsletter Prairie Trail Spiritwear District Volunteer Opportunities Career Cruising Our office is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Absences Parents of the student who will be absent are requested to notify the attendance secretary prior to 8:00 a.m. the day of the absence. Parents need not wait for office hours to communicate an expected absence. You may access the voice mailbox and leave this message any time outside of regular office hours by calling (913)780-7280. If the school office has not heard from a parent/guardian by 10:00 a.m. regarding your student's absence, you will be contacted by phone at home or work to verify the absence. You may email Mrs. Barbara Walters at bwaltersprt@olatheschools.com Students who arrive to school after 8:00 a.m. should sign in at the office to obtain an admit slip to class. Any arrival after 8:20 a.m. is considered an absence from first hour. Throughout the school day the student's teachers will address tardies to class. Consequences will be assigned and should there be repeated incidents of tardiness, the situation may be referred to an administrator for further review. Upon request, homework will be collected on the second consecutive day that your student is absent. Requests made by 8:00 a.m. may be picked up after 3:30 p.m. the same day. Students who are going out of town are responsible for requesting their own homework in advance. Forms are available in the office. Parents are requested to provide a written request or phone call to the attendance secretary prior to arriving to sign their student out of school for an appointment. Students may only be released to persons listed on the enrollment information card. Parents are asked to sign students out in the office at the time of departure. Students may sign themselves in upon their return to school. Again, all are encouraged to attempt to avoid scheduling appointments during the school day. Medication (District policy) All prescription medication must be registered in the health office and must be in the original prescription bottle. Those medications to be administered under supervision will require a physician's order on file. Students may carry other medications such as antibiotics and inhalers, unless the parent or physician requests supervision. The student may carry common over the counter medication for minor discomforts (Tylenol, Midol, and Advil) with parent permission. The student should carry only what is necessary for that day in the original container. At no time should any medication be distributed by students to other students. Distribution of controlled substances, including prescription medications, by students is unlawful. Purpose To provide advice and counsel to the school administration and faculty - evaluating state and district goals and objectives as they relate to PRTJHS. Participate in the QPA evaluation. Help determine methods that will be used by the school to meet goals and objectives. Serve as a community liason between school administration, faculty, parents, students, and the Board of Education.
Thank you for taking time to visit the Prairie Trail web site. Prairie Trail Junior High School opened in the fall of 2004. We are a rapidly growing community in the northwest region of the Olathe School District. Our school community is built on three values . . . Pride, Respect, Teamwork. We attempt to integrate these in every facet of student life. We focus on doing our best, as we continually strive for excellence in the classroom, in our performances and on the athletic field. This will be my 17 th year as a junior high educator in Olathe. Prior to coming to Olathe, I taught junior high math in Kansas City, Kansas. Each educator and support staff member at PRT has a passion for working with junior high students. Our goal as we come to school each day is to provide a learning environment where young people feel connected and safe. Programs at PRT are designed to assist each individual in their efforts to be all that they can be. We welcome inquiries and visitors to Prairie Trail. Please contact us if you have questions or would like to visit. Stacey Yurkovich,
