Animal Heath Academy Freshman participate in Animal Camp at Mahaffie Farmstead each summer. It gives students a chance to work hands-on with large animals. Students work directly with professionals in the Animal Health field to learn about various topics including grooming, nutrition, and routine veterinary care.
Animal Health Sophomores attend Kansas City Zoo Career Immersion
Students will spend 36 hours over 4 days at the Kansas City Zoo exploring a variety of careers that work with animals, including zookeeper, the education department and more. The immersive experience includes hands-on and behind the scenes opportunities as well as classroom work and learning opportunities.
Juniors – KC Zoo – Field Research
Students will spend 36 hours over 4 days at the Kansas City Zoo engage in a Field Research opportunity involving an animal behavior study. Students will develop their skills collecting, analyzing and interpreting data while creating ethograms just as animal researchers would in their field of study. The immersive experience includes hands-on and behind the scenes opportunities as well as independent and classroom work.
Seniors – One Health – online line class through K-State Olathe
A free, non-credit course designed to give seniors a taste of what will be required to take an online college-level class while delivering course specific information related to the One Health concept of Animal Health. Topics explored include zoonotic diseases, food safety, environmental issues and more.
