Olathe West hosted the first ever Kansas City Regional KidWind Challenge on February 5th in the Green Tech Academy. Last year, the KidWind challenge nationally had over 4,500 students competing across 35 different states. The competition portion of KidWind has students design, test, and build their own wind turbine and determine which one can generate the most electricity in a wind tunnel. Alongside the performance testing, the teams compete in a knowledge quiz about wind energy, an instant challenge, and present their turbines to a panel of industry experts. A total of six teams from Frontier Trail, Mission Trail, and Olathe West competed in the event at Olathe West, and all three schools will be sending teams to compete in the Statewide Challenge in Topeka on April 4th.
